Hoonah Domestic Violence Awareness Coalition

This is an informal coalition of diverse organizations within the community that have joined together to promote positive social change to end domestic violence and the underlying social tolerance that perpetuates it.

The group was originally organized as the Hoonah Domestic Violence Advisory Board to SEARHC.  Following departure of the group organizer who lived in Haines, the group has re-established itself as a sustainable Hoonah community action group with the goal to help people to help themselves in combating domestic violence.

The partner agencies are: SEARHC-Hoonah, Hoonah City Schools, Hoonah Police Dept., Big Brothers Big Sisters, City of Hoonah Youth Center, and Hoonah Indian Association.  Other members include: Itinerant Public Health from Juneau and SEARHC-Sitka.

The main contact number for the group is through the Victims’ Rights Advocate at Hoonah Indian Association: (907) 945-3545, ext. 139 or cell 907-723-3724.
